Booker: Trump ‘demeans us’

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) in a new video slammed Donald Trump, calling the presumptive GOP presidential nominee someone who divides the nation.

“There’s an old saying, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together,'” Booker said at the beginning of a video by MoveOn.

{mosads}”There’s a man running for president who’s saying the exact opposite and lying about it. His name is Donald Trump, and while we are working to grow as a country together, he’s pulling us apart.”

Booker, who has been mentioned as a possible running mate for presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, added that the country has come a long way because people have worked to be more inclusive and united.

“And sure, we still have a long way to go,” he said.

“But as a nation, we’ve become better at recognizing our interdependence. Better at recognizing that we all do better when we all do better,” he continued.

“When we elevate each other as equals, this country moves forward and thrives.”

Booker then pivoted to Trump, saying that the candidate “demeans us, degrades us and divides us.”

He referenced Trump’s comments on Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), in which he denied that the senator was a war hero because he was captured during the Vietnam War, and criticized Trump for mocking a disabled reporter.

He then called on people to do their part to make sure Trump doesn’t become the country’s next president.

“Our nation’s dream still demands service and sacrifice,” Booker said.

“We the people must make this a more perfect union.”
