Melania Trump: My husband can change his tone
Donald Trump’s wife believes her husband, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, can change his tone.
“He can have a different tone. He really can have a different tone, because to build the empire and the business that he built, you cannot always use that kind of a tone,” Melania Trump said Monday in an interview on CNN as the Republican National Convention kicked off.
{mosads}”He can really change. I know him and he could really change the words and the tone.”
But her husband “is who he is,” she said, framing him as someone who can get things done.
“He’s a doer,” she said.
“He does things. He’s not just talking it. He will have things done for the states, for the … American people.”
She also pushed back against accusations that the presumptive GOP nominee is racist or anti-immigrant.
“He wants to keep America safe. He wants to have illegal immigrants taken care of, that they will not be in the country,” she said.
“They are not good for the America. He was talking about illegal immigration, not about everybody.”
Melania Trump will speak Monday night at the convention, where she will give prepared remarks in a rare campaign appearance.
Donald Trump will appear on the convention stage for the first time Monday night to introduce his wife.
Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, told reporters Monday that the pair would be flying into Cleveland for her prime-time address, and Trump will be speaking publicly.
