Sanders says leaked DNC emails don’t change his support for Clinton

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said he will still support Hillary Clinton for president, despite leaked emails that showed Democratic Party leaders privately planned to undermine his presidential campaign.

{mosads}”No, no, no,” Sanders said in response to a question on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about whether the emails affect his support of the presumptive Democratic nominee.

“We are going to do everything we can to protect working families in this country. What a campaign is about is not about Hillary Clinton; it’s not about Donald Trump. It’s about the people of this country.”

Sanders called Clinton, whom he formally endorsed earlier this month, a “far, far superior candidate” to Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.

“We’re going to focus on defeating the worst Republican candidate I’ve seen in a lifetime. We’ve got to elect Secretary Clinton.”

Emails leaked Friday by WikiLeaks reignited talk of party favoritism for Clinton just ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week.

In one May 21 email, Democratic National Committee press secretary Mark Paustenbach wrote to communications director Luis Miranda about planting a narrative to the media that Sanders’s “campaign was a mess.”
