Former GOP congressman backing Clinton over Trump
Another former GOP lawmaker is backing Hillary Clinton, continuing the trend of Republicans bucking their party’s presidential nominee, Donald Trump.
{mosads}Former Rep. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) said on Wednesday that John Kasich was his first choice, but he is now supporting Clinton — a Democrat — because Trump is too dangerous.
“Not hard to figure out. Donald Trump lost me a long time ago. He does and says everything my mom and dad taught me never to say and do,” Shays said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“He doesn’t understand the basic requirements of being president of the United States and frankly, he’s dangerous.”
Several Republicans have said they will vote for Clinton over Trump.
Rep. Richard Hanna (N.Y.) last week called Trump a national embarrassment while vowing to vote for Clinton in November.
