Gingrich: Trump staff shake-up ‘strengthens’ campaign

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) on Wednesday praised the Donald Trump campaign’s new hires, saying the additions will help the candidate’s White House bid.

{mosads}“Well, I think they’re very good for Trump because it strengthens it,” Gingrich on Fox News Radio’s the “John Gibson Show”, Buzzfeed News reported.

“In many ways Paul Manafort has been a transitional figure who has brought the campaign to a much more professional, much more national capability. But the campaign had to continue growing. Trying to run in 50 states, deal with the national media, take on the Clinton machine — that’s a lot.”

The Trump campaign brought on Breitbart News Chairman Stephen Bannon to serve as its new campaign CEO and pollster Kellyanne Conway, who previously served as a Trump adviser, to step in as the GOP nominee’s campaign manager.

The move came at a critical time for Trump, who has been trailing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the polls over the last several weeks.

Clinton has held an advantage in polls, both nationally and in battleground states, as the billionaire businessman has dealt with several controversies.

Gingrich, a Trump ally, called Bannon a “tremendous manager.”

“He is a great fighter in the conservative tradition. He at Breitbart and elsewhere has really made an impact and he understands the news cycle and how to fight the left,” Gingrich said.

On Conway, the former Speaker said she has been a “great pollster.” Gingrich has worked with Conway in the past.

“She will bring, I think again, a very aggressive, tough-minded approach, very fact-based policy approach to it,” Gingrich said.

“I think these are both terrific choices and I’m delighted that he’s bringing them in.”
