Trump’s immigration plans ‘continue to be worked out,’ says Pence

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Tuesday that the Republican nominee has been clear about his intentions to restore strong borders and enforce immigration laws.

{mosads}”We’re going to build a wall. We’re going to enforce the laws that are on the books today,” Pence, Donald Trump’s running mate, said in an interview with CBS News’s Major Garrett.

“And the mechanism for how we do that — he’s also been very clear that we’ll do it in a humane way.”

The process will be “tough but fair,” Pence said. But when asked further to explain what it means when it comes to deportations, the governor declined to give more details.

“I think those are issues that will continue to be worked out in the days ahead,” Pence said.

The Indiana governor said people who have “run afoul of the law” need to leave the country immediately, but the details of how will be worked out with Congress in the future.

Trump has, in the past, called for some kind of deportation force to remove the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country.

Questions have been raised recently about Trump’s position on immigration, after campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said it is “to be determined” whether the GOP nominee’s plans will include a deportation force.

Trump said in an interview Tuesday he would be open to “softening” on immigration laws after insisting previously he wasn’t flip-flopping on his position to deport the 11 million undocumented people living in the country.
