Trump reserves ad time in half of states promised
Donald Trump has only reserved about $5 million in television advertising for his latest campaign ad, about half of what the campaign promised at the start of the week.
{mosads}The Republican presidential nominee’s campaign, which has been massively outspent on the airwaves by Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and her allies, announced Monday that it would put $10 million behind the new ad, which focuses on Trump’s economic plan.
An NBC News analysis shows that the Trump campaign has spent a little more than $5 million in Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. But it hasn’t booked time in Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire or Virginia, all states in which the campaign had said the ad would run.
The Trump campaign reportedly told NBC on Tuesday that it would reserve time in the remaining states by Wednesday, but so far that has not materialized.
The Democratic effort — from the Clinton campaign along with allied groups and super-PACs — has blanketed the airwaves by reserving or airing more than $100 million in ads. But the Trump campaign has so far paid for two modest ad buys, this one and one earlier this month totaling $4 million.
The latest ad buy comes as Clinton sits ahead of Trump in virtually all swing states, although the polls have begun to tighten.
