Poll: Clinton, Trump tied in four-way race

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and GOP rival Donald Trump are tied among likely voters in a four-way race nationally, according to a new poll.

{mosads}The major-party nominees each take 42 percent in the CBS News/New York Times poll released Thursday morning.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson has 8 percent, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein has 4 percent.

Clinton has a 2-point lead over Trump among registered voters in that scenario, 41 to 39 percent, with Johnson taking 22 percent and Stein 5 percent.

Clinton also leads Trump among likely voters by 2 points in a two-way race, 46 to 44 percent.

Her lead widens among registered voters, 46 to 41 percent, in a two-way race.

Pollsters questioned 1,433 registered voters from Sept. 9 to 13. The poll has a 3 percentage point margin of error.

Recent polls show a tightening race between Clinton and Trump at both the state and national levels before November.

A Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday, for example, found Trump has halved Clinton’s lead from 10 to 5 percent nationwide since the end of August.

A CNN/ORC poll issued the same day, meanwhile, found Trump leading Clinton by single digits in both Florida and Ohio.

Clinton leads Trump by about 2 points in a two-way matchup nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
