Pence: ‘I’m sure Colin Powell’s embarrassed’ by emails

Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says Colin Powell is likely embarrassed by leaked emails showing him insulting Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

{mosads}“It’s unfortunate,” Pence, the Republican vice presidential nominee, said on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends” on Thursday. “I have a lot of respect for [former] Secretary [of State] Powell. We’ve known each other for many years.

“I’m certainly willing to sit down and have a conversation with him. He’s entitled to his opinion about Hillary Clinton and about Donald Trump.”

Details are gradually emerging about Powell’s emails, which were published by DCLeaks.com, a site with reported but unconfirmed ties to Russian intelligence.

In one scathing message, Powell in June described Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, as a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah.”

“[Trump] can never overcome what he tried to do to [President] Obama with his search for the birth certificate hoping to force Obama out of the presidency,” he said in another email last month.

Powell’s emails show he has been equally critical of Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee.

“Everything [Clinton] touches she kind of screws up with hubris,” he wrote in August 2015, while criticizing her use of a private email server while she served as secretary of State.

Powell also said in a July 2014 email that Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, is still having sex with “bimbos at home.”
