Trump: I’d like to lose 15 pounds
Donald Trump told Dr. Mehmet Oz that he’d like to drop about 15 pounds when the television host confronted him about this weight.
A report from the GOP presidential nominee’s physician found that Trump is 6-foot-3 and weighs 236 pounds, putting him just on the fringe of obese on the standard body mass index scale.
{mosads}”I think I could lose a little bit of weight. … I’ve always been a little bit this way,” Trump said in the episode of the “Dr. Oz show” that aired Thursday.
“If I had one thing, I’d like to lose weight. It’s tough because of the way I live. But the one thing I’d like to do is be able to drop 15, 20 pounds.”
Trump noted during the interview that he doesn’t have time to play as much golf as he’d like to. And when asked about his exercise regimen, he pointed to his energetic stump speeches at large rallies.
“It’s a lot of work. When I’m up there speaking in front of 15,000, 25,000 people up there using a lot of motion, I guess in its own way it’s a really healthy act,” he said. “I really enjoy doing it. A lot of times these rooms are really hot, like saunas. I guess that’s a form of exercise.”
When asked by the audience what he would do to stop the obesity epidemic, Trump noted that he’s a “big believer in the world of sports,” pointing to how his athletic schedule in high school allowed him to have more flexibility with his diet.
Trump’s appearance came alongside the release of results from his most recent physical, which the campaign released both on the show and to reporters a few hours before.
The health of both Trump and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton has become the most discussed issue of the campaign over the last week, especially after Clinton stumbled Sunday at a 9/11 memorial ceremony, leading her campaign to disclose that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia.
