Booker: Republicans are outraged over Trump

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Sunday said that many Republicans in Congress are outraged about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s candidacy and his political rhetoric.

{mosads}”This is one of those elections that can’t be about party. It’s got to be about patriotism. It’s got to be about what’s best for this country,” Booker said in a radio interview with John Catsimatidis.

“My Republican Senate colleagues … are outraged about the kind of things that are coming out of Donald Trump’s mouth about the disregard and disrespect he shows to so many categories of Americans.”

Specifically, Booker pointed to Trump’s comments about “people who have been captured as prisoners of war” and what Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) “called ‘textbook racism’ when [Trump] demeaned a United States judge born in Indiana because of his ethnic heritage.’ “

“All of those things,” continued Booker, “are unacceptable.”

The New Jersey senator then proceeded to echo Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign, asking what Trump’s presidency will look like if he behaves the same way in the White House.

“What happens if he shows that short temper or reacts on the international stage where it could have consequences of life or death, war or peace?” he asked.

A large number of former and current Republican officials, including former members of the State Department, have either supported Clinton or said that they would rather have her over Trump.

In August, Clinton’s campaign even touted an entire list of nearly 50 GOP endorsements as it launched a new initiative to win over Republicans who oppose Trump.

“I’m proud there are so many Republicans nationally coming out against Donald Trump’s candidacy,” said Booker as he lauded his colleagues for opposing the Republican nominee.
