Giuliani: Clinton had ‘obviously been programmed’ to bring up Miss Universe
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) on Sunday criticized Hillary Clinton for bringing up former Miss Universe Alicia Machado during the first presidential debate of 2016.
{mosads}”She had obviously been programmed to bring that up,” Giuliani, an adviser to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, said on ABC’s “This Week.”
“So she — she brings up this woman. This woman goes back 20 years or so.”
Giuliani also said Machado, whom Trump has criticized in the past for her weight, had a “very unfortunate past.” He cited an allegation against the former Miss Universe that she was a “driver in a bank robbery.”
Giuliani then shifted blame for the controversy to the Democratic nominee.
“The reality is that that was something that she brought,” Giuliani said, referring to Clinton.
“She brought that into this. She brought personal life into this.”
The former New York City mayor continued to criticize Clinton for personally attacking Trump.
“You want to bring personality into it, Hillary, and your husband has the history that he has,” Giuliani said.
“And you have a history of attacking the women that — the only women victims she doesn’t believe are the ones who say they were victimized by her husband. And we have, I don’t know, 20? Thirty? Forty?”
Giuliani said it’s a bad idea to focus on former President Bill Clinton’s life, but noted that if the Democratic nominee attacks Trump on how he deals with women, the Trump campaign has to respond in kind.
He also slammed Hillary Clinton for having taken money from governments that treat women poorly.
“And so now, basically, it’s don’t lecture me, Hillary, on feminism,” Giuliani said, “because you’re a phony.”
