Mike Pence on Tuesday made clear he thought little of repeated attacks on Donald Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants, dismissing them as “that Mexican thing.”
{mosads}At Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, Republican Pence was repeatedly attacked by his Democratic counterpart, Tim Kaine, about Trump’s comments about illegal immigrants from Mexico being rapists and drug dealers.
Toward the end of the 90-minute bout in Farmville, Va., Kaine brought it up another time, and Pence noted it was not the first time he’d heard about it.
“You’ve whipped out that Mexican thing again,” he responded.
Kaine aggressively highlighted comments from Trump throughout the debate, directly challenging Pence to defend derisive remarks about immigrants, women and others.
“He is showing you who he is,” Kaine said of the GOP presidential nominee.
Pence often accused Kaine of misconstruing the remarks or simply wrote off Trump’s statements as frank and a sign of his outsider status.
“He’s not a polished politician like you and Hillary Clinton,” Pence said.
