GOP rep: I’d back Pence for president ‘in a heartbeat’

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), who has refused to back GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, says he would not hesitate to vote for Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, for president.

{mosads}“Oh yeah, in a heartbeat, in a second,” Kinzinger said when asked by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer if he would back a Pence presidential bid, according to Politico.

“I served with him for a couple years in the House. He’s a fantastic guy who has his head in the right spot,” Kinzinger said. “If he should ever be called upon to be president, I think he would do a fantastic job.”

Kinzinger, who is among a number of Republicans who have said they won’t vote for Trump, advised the real estate mogul to emulate his running mate in the remaining presidential debates.

“If I’m Donald Trump, I’m taking lessons now from how Pence performed and the rave reviews he got, and I’m going to try to model my town hall appearance after that,” he said.
