Biden on Pence: ‘It’s awful tough being Donald Trump’s running mate’

Vice President Biden on Friday said he “couldn’t imagine” having the responsibility of Donald Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, to defend the GOP presidential nominee’s “inaccurate and indefensible” remarks.

{mosads}While campaigning for Hillary Clinton in Bristol, Pa., Biden pointed to Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, hitting Pence at this week’s VP debate for Trump’s past remarks about Russian President Vladimir Putin and punishing women who get abortions if the procedure is outlawed, which he has since walked back.

“I’ve never seen a candidate who knows fewer facts, but Donald Trump has said so many things that are inaccurate and indefensible, causing his running mate, who’s a decent guy — I served with him in the Congress — to have to make up a whole hell of a lot of facts on the run,” Biden said.

“I’ve been the vice presidential candidate, I’ve been in a few debates and I can’t imagine having to do what [Pence] had to do for Trump,” he added.

Pence and Kaine squared off in the first and only vice presidential debate Tuesday night and traded barbs over a number issues. A CNN/ORC instant poll following the debate found Pence as the winner.

The Democratic vice presidential nominee was criticized for repeatedly interrupting Pence and also cut in while moderator Elaine Quijano of CBS News was telling him to let Pence talk.

Democrats pushed back at Pence’s performance, and Clinton’s campaign launched a new video a day after Tuesday’s debate, contrasting clips of controversial Trump statements with Pence’s denials that the GOP nominee said them.

Biden said it was “mind blowing” that news networks were showing clips on their broadcasts of Trump’s past statements, including his 2012 tweet where the real estate mogul called climate change a hoax created by China.

“His running mate had to deny every one of those things,” Biden said Friday. “I’ve been doing this a long time, I have never ever seen anything like that before.

“So it’s awful tough being Donald Trump’s running mate.”
