Kaine on lewd Trump tapes: ‘Makes me sick to my stomach’
Tim Kaine on Friday called Donald Trump’s behavior “outrageous” after audio surfaced from 2005 that caught the Republican presidential nominee making lewd comments about women.
{mosads}Speaking to reporters at a campaign stop in Nevada, the Democratic vice presidential nominee said he was not shocked about a new report detailing Trump’s explicit comments about women.
“It makes me sick to my stomach,” Kaine told reporters on Friday. “This is behavior that is just outrageous.
“And so that there would be a new story that would have more statements like this kind, I mean, I’m sad to say I’m not surprised. I should be surprised and shocked. I’m sad to say that I’m not.”
On Friday, The Washington Post published audio recorded when Trump, on a bus with former “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush, discussed trying to have sex with women. Trump had been married to his third wife, Melania, for several months.
“I did try and f–k her. She was married,” Trump says, according to the audio. “And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, ‘I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture.’ ”
Shortly after the Post’s report, Trump’s campaign issued a statement apologizing “if anyone was offended.”
“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago,” Trump said in the statement. “[Former President] Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.”
