House GOP leader calls on Trump to apologize for lewd remarks about women
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called on Donald Trump to apologize for making sexually aggressive comments about using his celebrity to grope women.
McCarthy’s demand late Friday night came after the Washington Post published previously unaired audio of Trump speaking on a hot mic before a 2005 “Access Hollywood” appearance.
“There is absolutely no place for that sort of conduct or language in our society. Donald Trump must make a full and unqualified apology,” McCarthy said in a statement.
{mosads}In the tape, Trump can be heard describing his attempt to seduce a married woman, as well as using his power as a celebrity to get away with kissing and touching women.
As he and host Billy Bush prepared to meet with Arianne Zucker, an actress on “Days of Our Lives,” Trump said he will “use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her.”
“You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait,” Trump said.
“And when you’re a star, they let you do it,” Trump said. “You can do anything.”
“Grab them by the p—y,” he added. “You can do anything.”
Trump issued a half-apology saying the comments were private “locker-room banter” and “I apologize if anyone was offended.” That response, in many Republicans’ view, didn’t go far enough.
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) also condemned Trump’s comments, saying in a statement that he was “sickened” and would no longer be campaigning with Trump in his district on Saturday. Vice presidential nominee Mike Pence will go in Trump’s place.
