Trump: Mexico has 12 ways to pay for wall

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Saturday that there would be a dozen ways for Mexico to pay for his proposed border wall.

“They will pay for the wall, in some form, believe me there’s about 12 forms they can do it. They’ll pick one that looks best, they will pay for the wall,” Trump said at a rally in New Hampshire.

{mosads}Trump’s proposal to build a wall on the border with Mexico has been a centerpiece of his campaign, and he has repeatedly stated Mexico will pay for the wall.

Trump doubled down on his immigration proposals, saying criminals and drugs routinely pour over the southern border.

“A wall will not only keep out the dangerous cartels and criminals, but it will also keep out the drugs and heroin that’s poisoning our youth,” Trump said.

Mexican officials have consistently denied the possibility of the country paying for a wall. Former President Vicente Fox drew Trump’s ire in February when he said, “I’m not going to pay for that f—ing wall.”

Trump did not specify the 12 financing options, but he has previously suggested his government would impound remittances, the money immigrants send to relatives abroad.

Mexico’s central bank reported that Mexican citizens in the United States sent $24.8 billion in remittances in 2015, overtaking oil income as a source of revenue for the country.
