Poll: Clinton, Christie tied in Ohio

A new poll shows former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) tied among Ohio voters in a potential 2016 presidential matchup.

{mosads}The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University, shows both Clinton and Christie with 42 percent support in the key swing state.

Christie nabs independents, taking 41 percent to Clinton’s 38 percent, but Clinton holds a strong lead among women. She has the support of 47 percent of female voters to Christie’s 36 percent.

Clinton fares slightly better against Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), leading 47 percent support to 44 percent.

The poll spells bad news for Vice President Biden, another potential Democratic contender. Biden lags both Christie and Paul. Christie takes a 50 percent support to Biden’s 32 percent, and Paul takes 49 percent support to Biden’s 40 percent.

Republicans may be benefitting from President Obama’s poor standing in Ohio — he currently has the lowest job approval ever in the Quinnipiac poll, with only 40 percent approving of his job performance and 57 percent disapproving.

Independents in particular are abandoning the president, with only 34 percent of that voting bloc approving of his job performance, while 64 percent disapprove.

The poll was conducted among 941 registered voters from June 18-23 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
