Rick Perry to headline California GOP convention
{mosads}”He’s speaking Saturday night,” California Republican Party spokesman Mark Standriff tells The Hill.
Perry has shown an interest in another run for president in 2016, and California is a major state for political donors in both parties.
The Texas governor has had an interesting past relationship with California — earlier this year he ran ads encouraging businesses in the state to move to Texas.
“Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible,” Perry says in the ad. “I have a message for California businesses: Come check out Texas.”
Standriff declined to comment on the ads.
“Gov. Perry is an extremely popular governor with a great track record. That’s why we invited him,” he said.
Others who will attend: Republican National Committee co-chairwoman Sharon Day and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.). A number of this election’s most competitive House seats are expected to be in California.
