Newt Gingrich says redistricting can help GOP make big gains
NEW ORLEANS — Newt Gingrich said Thursday that the GOP could gain as
many as 25 or 30 House seats through redistricting, provided it does
well enough in this year’s governor’s races.
Gingrich noted that there are more open governor’s seats than at any
point in the last century, and said he is encouraged by the early
polling in many of those states.
“If we win these seats, it could be worth as many as 25 or 30 seats
in redistricting,” Gingrich said at a Q-and-A session at the Southern
Republican Leadership Conference.
Gingrich’s thought echoes almost exactly something a Republican
Governors Association (RGA) spokesman
said in 2008 — even down to the numbers used.
