RNC pledges to help O’Donnell in Delaware

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele phoned Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell Thursday afternoon to extend the committee’s support in her race against Democrat Chris Coons, The Hill has learned.

Reached Thursday, O’Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran confirmed that the call took place, but would only say “the conversation went well.”

According to a Republican source, Steele indicated that the committee stands ready to aid her campaign, which will likely include some financial support.

The national party has worked to mend fences after initial reports Tuesday night suggested the National Republican Senatorial Committee would not support O’Donnell in the general election.

Since then, NRSC Chair John Cornyn (Texas) has pledged $42,000 to O’Donnell’s campaign from the committee.
