Paul Broun brags he was first member of Congress to call Obama ‘a socialist’ in fundraising email

“As a member of the House of Representatives for the last few years, I have fought tooth-and-nail against President Obama’s agenda at every turn. I was the first member of Congress to call him a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies like government control of healthcare and redistribution of wealth,” he writes in a letter to potential fundraisers obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

{mosads}Broun is the only candidate who’s so far announced for the seat left open by Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s (R-Ga.) decision to retire, though a number of other Georgia Republicans, including Reps. Tom Price, Jack Kingston, Phil Gingrey and Tom Graves, are also considering a bid.

The hardline conservative congressman has a history of making incendiary comments — just a few weeks ago he said Obama followed the “Soviet Constitution” — but since he announced his bid he has used some notable restraint in his rhetoric. It seems that only goes so far.
