Broun hasn’t joined other Senate candidates in backing House Republican bill on ObamaCare

Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) hasn’t embraced a GOP-led push to change a part of ObamaCare, breaking with every other House Republican running for the Senate.

Reps. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) and Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), his primary foes are supporting a bill by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) to grandfather in all current healthcare plans to keep people from having to choose new, potentially more expensive coverage. So are Reps. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).

But Broun, who’s running against them for Georgia’s open Senate seat, hasn’t embraced the bill. His potential split from the pack indicates a particularly unyielding conservatism, and marks a rare break from the conservative groups Heritage Action and the Club for Growth, both of which are backing the measure.

He’s routinely argued for a full repeal of ObamaCare and opposed any changes to improve the law, taking a more unyielding stance than many his colleagues.

ObamaCare has been the central issue of the Georgia Senate primary — Gingrey released an ad earlier this week saying he’d repeal ObamaCare in his first term as senator or retire, and the other campaigns have zeroed in on the law, which is hated by most Republicans.
