Treadwell continues fundraising struggles

Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) continues to struggle with fundraising for his Senate race, hauling in less than $230,000 in the final three months of 2013.

Treadwell, who is hoping to be the GOP nominee against Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska), has consistently struggled to raise funds for his bid — his most recent haul is in line with his previous quarters’ sums. Former Alaska Department of Natural Resources head Dan Sullivan (R), who jumped into the race in October, raised $1.25 million in the same time period.

{mosads}Treadwell’s campaign took an implicit shot at Sullivan, who has tapped a national fundraising network to fuel his campaign.

“This is a campaign for Alaska, supported by Alaskans,” Treadwell spokesman Fred Brown said in a statement over the weekend announcing the total. “Even with outside money pouring in, Alaska’s votes are not for sale. Mead has led in this race from the beginning and continues to do so. Mead has spent 40 years serving the state, and no one can buy that kind of experience or the loyal support it creates.”

Treadwell, Sullivan, and Tea Party favorite and 2010 Senate nominee, Joe Miller (R) are vying for the chance to take on Begich, a top GOP target in the conservative state.
