Americans for Prosperity hits Landrieu for ObamaCare support

Conservative group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released an ad Wednesday attacking Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) for supporting ObamaCare.

The ad highlights several Louisianans who lost their family plan, insurance policy or doctor under the healthcare law and those whose monthly premiums increased.

“Senator Landrieu is playing political games with real people’s lives,” AFP President Tim Phillips said in a statement. “Politicians supporting ObamaCare seem to forget that their actions have real consequences, such as the cancelled insurance plans, lost access to doctors, and skyrocketing health care costs that define the President’s health care law.”

{mosads}The 30-second ad will begin airing Wednesday in Louisiana and will continue for three weeks. An AFP spokesman said the cost of the ad buy totaled $750,000.

“Dear Mrs. Kelly, your family plan is no longer available under the Affordable Care Act. Dear Ms. Davis, we can no longer offer you the same policy. Your doctor is no longer in the network due to the Affordable Care Act. Due to the Affordable Care Act, your monthly premium has increased, no longer covered due to the Affordable Care Act. Send Sen. Landrieu a message. ObamaCare is hurting Louisiana families,” the narrators in the ad say.

Landrieu is among the most vulnerable Senate Democrats up for reelection this November.

In her first campaign ad of this cycle, she touted a bill she introduced late last year that would allow Americans to keep their insurance under ObamaCare.

The proposal came after reports revealed millions of Americans were losing their health insurance under the new healthcare law.

In November, Obama announced he would honor his “if you like your plan, you can keep it” promise by allowing insurance companies to continue offering old policies for one more year.

Landrieu’s reelection campaign shot back at AFP on Wednesday, arguing that the ad was an attempt by the Koch brothers to distract from their plan to kill a flood insurance bill.

AFP is backed by the billionaire brothers. Landrieu had worked with Republican Sen. David Vitter (La.) to help pass the flood insurance measure, which AFP urged lawmakers to vote “no” on.

“Sen. Landrieu has always said the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect and supported numerous legislative measures to fix or improve it. When she learned that individuals who liked their health insurance could no longer keep it, despite the President’s promise, she wrote legislation to insure that the promise was kept. As a result, the President issued guidance allowing states and insurance companies to renew individual health plans for another year,” Landrieu’s campaign said in a release Wednesday.

“Now in Louisiana, tens of thousands of policyholders who might previously have experienced a potential insurance cancellation will be able to keep their plans.”
