SNL star makes election plea for Franken

Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte is urging fans to donate to the reelection campaign of Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), a former actor and writer on the show.

Forte joined actor Richard Dean Anderson in a humorous email on behalf of Franken’s campaign where he imitated MacGruber, the character he played in a 2010 film of the same name.

{mosads}Anderson is known for his role as secret agent Angus MacGyver, the television character on which Forte’s spoof is based.

“We’re writing because our friend, Al Franken, is running out of time in his fight to keep working for Minnesota families in the U.S. Senate,” Forte wrote. “And when I hear ‘running out of time,’ I know what that means: It’s time for a dangerous stunt that’s sure to backfire.”

“Actually, Will, I’m going to suggest we go in another direction,” Anderson replied. “What say we ask (nicely) of my fellow Minnesotans and those receiving this email [to donate funds to Franken].”

“Right. Take $5 and then light it on fire,” Forte continued.

Franken is facing Republican challenger Mike McFadden on Tuesday. He worked on SNL from 1975 to 1980 and again from 1985 to 1995.
