Bill Clinton backs Braley in Iowa
President Bill Clinton stumped for Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) on Saturday, urging voters to support the candidate in his tight race against Republican Joni Ernst.
Braley is a “grow together candidate,” Clinton said, speaking alongside Secretary of Agriculture and former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and singer James Taylor.
{mosads}”If you think we ought to grow together and work together, you don’t really have a choice,” Clinton said, according to the Des Moines Register. “Bruce Braley is the only choice and he’s a good choice.”
Clinton is one of many prominent Democrats to campaign for Braley in recent weeks.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, first lady Michelle Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have all lent their help to drive turnout.
National Republican figures, meanwhile, have been coming to Iowa in droves to support Ernst. Her surrogates have included former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
The Republican Party of Iowa called Braley’s association with leaders like Reid and Warren out of touch and evidence that he supports the Obama administration’s agenda.
