Ky. GOP knocks Grimes for actor’s support

Kentucky Republicans are knocking Alison Lundergan Grimes for her support from a Hollywood liberal and President Obama fan.

Martin Sheen, who played the fictional President Bartlet on NBC’s “The West Wing,” has appeared in a video supporting Grimes, who is seeking to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

{mosads}The Kentucky GOP had circulated a statement criticizing Grimes for appearing with Sheen on Saturday. But a spokeswoman for the Grimes campaign told The Hill that the actor will not be coming to Kentucky.

In its release, Kentucky Republicans pointed out that Sheen hasn’t been shy in expressing his admiration for Obama, circulating a 2011 interview in which the actor said the president is “doing a great job.”

“I adore him,” Sheen said.

Grimes has done everything she can to distance herself from Obama, who’s deeply unpopular in Kentucky. Grimes has called herself a “Clinton Democrat,” and even refused to say whether she voted for Obama.
