Romney predicts ‘big Republican year’
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney predicted that the GOP will have a “big year” in Tuesday’s midterm elections, though he stopped short of saying definitively that Republicans will take control of the Senate.
{mosads}”I can tell you this,” Romney said on “Fox News Sunday.” “We’re going to pick up a lot of seats in the Senate, we’re going to pick up a lot of seats in the House.”
Romney also criticized Democrats like Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn and incumbent Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn for hammering their opponents’ records as businesspeople who sent jobs overseas.
The former Massachusetts governor faced similar attacks during his presidential bids.
“You’re finding Democrats across the country pretty desperate at this stage,” Romney said. “The American people have recognized that these attacks on a person’s character … all these things are getting weaker and weaker.”
Romney was enlisted to deliver a closing argument for Republicans on Fox prior to Tuesday’s vote. He said a GOP Senate would help less gridlock in Washington by ensuring that more bills head to President Obama’s desk.
“Some he won’t sign,” Romney said. “He’ll veto some, but then we’ll really find out which is the party of ‘no.'”
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) followed Romney to promote Democrats’ 2014 agenda and deliver his assessment of how the midterms will go.
“We’re feeling good about what is happening” on the campaign trail, Cardin said, citing Democrats’ get-out-the-vote initiatives. “I think voters know who is fighting for them.”
