Lankford wins Senate seat

Republican Rep. James Lankford won his bid on Tuesday night for the Oklahoma Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Coburn.

Lankford, who has been in the House for four years, easily defeated Democrat Connie Johnson to take over the seat, which Coburn is leaving before his term expires.

{mosads}The 45-year-old will have only two years before he has to run for a full six-year term.

In the upper chamber, Lankford is expected to continue pressing for repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

He also has talked about improving border security and immigration reform.
