Coons keeps Delaware Senate seat

Delaware Democratic Sen. Chris Coons held on to his seat in Tuesday’s midterm elections, earning a full six-year term in the upper chamber.

Coons beat Republican businessman Kevin Wade, who lost in his second bid to gain a Senate seat in the past two years.

{mosads}Wade lost to incumbent Democrat Tom Carper in a 2012 contest.

Coons’s path to the Senate began in a 2010 special election where he easily beat Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell.

That seat was formerly held by Vice President Biden.

Coons has highlighted his efforts to build bipartisan consensus, while Wade focused on linking his opponent to President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

If the Senate flips to Republican control, Coons may have to call on his ability of reaching across the aisle.
