Indiana rep joins crowded Senate race

Rep. Todd Young (R-Ind.) on Sunday announced that he’s running for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Dan Coats (R).

In a video announcing his campaign, Young says he owns everything in his life “to God, my family, the Naval Academy and the Marine Corps.”

“The best way I can think of to give back is to ensure that every Hoosier family enjoys a better future,” he added.

Young described himself as a “pro-life, pro-gun Marine that wants to repeal and replace ObamaCare” in an interview with The Indianapolis Star.

“I think that’s going to be very appealing among Republicans,” he added.

Young will battle Coats’s (R-Ind.) former state chief of staff, Eric Holcomb, who announced in March that he would run for his former boss’s Senate seat.

Conservative Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) entered the race for Indiana Senate in May. Stutzman, who began his political career in the Indiana state legislature, sought a Senate seat in 2010 but was defeated by Coats in the primary.
