Groups unendorse Grayson after domestic violence allegations
Two top progressive groups have rescinded endorsements of liberal Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) in the wake of reported domestic violence allegations.
Democracy for America (DFA) and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) on Tuesday said they will no longer back Grayson’s run for a Florida Senate seat.
{mosads}Politico reported earlier in the day that Grayson’s ex-wife accused him of repeated domestic abuse over two decades.
“Unfortunately, this deeply disappointing revelation means progressives have no great options in the Florida race for Senate,” the two groups said in a joint statement by DFA executive director Charles Chamberlain and PCCC co-founders Stephanie Taylor and Adam Green.
The groups added that they want Grayson to give money they donated to his campaign to an Orlando-based organization to help victims of domestic abuse.
Grayson got into a heated altercation with a Politico reporter at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Tuesday, as he tried to dodge questions about the allegations.
Grayson accused a reporter of pushing him and threatened to tell police to arrest him.
Grayson is running against Rep. Patrick Murphy in the Democratic primary for Republican Sen. Marco Rubio’s seat. Rubio is heavily favored to win his GOP primary against businessman Carlos Beruff.
