Report: Gingrey will make Senate bid official on Wednesday

The congressman has been moving towards a Senate run for weeks, hiring staff and letting Republicans in the state know he planned to run, sources tell The Hill.

{mosads}He also recently voted against the House Republican budget drafted by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) because it didn’t balance the budget quickly enough. Some believe the move was to keep Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) from running to his right, as he’d backed previous Ryan budgets and had praised this year’s plan before voting against it.

He’ll be the second congressman officially in the race after Broun. Others mulling a bid include Reps. Tom Price (R-Ga.) and Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R), who is unlikely to run if Price does since they’re political allies. Kingston has also been moving towards a bid, while Price has said he won’t make a decision until May.

Many Democrats are hoping Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) will run.
