DSCC outraises NRSC by $1.7M in June

{mosads}The DSCC didn’t immediately provide its cash on hand or debt numbers, but the committee was carrying $9.6 million in its coffers and $12.5 million in debt at the end of May.

Though the DSCC outraised the NRSC every month this year except for April, Democrats look to be carrying more debt than the NRSC. The Republican committee had $6.5 million in debt and $7.04 million cash on hand at the end of June, the first month its cash in the bank has outpaced its debt.

Overall, the DSCC has outraised the NRSC by nearly $10 million this year, bringing in $27.4 million to $17.7 million for Republicans. That’s due in large part to an early fundraising lead, and help from President Obama, who has appeared at fundraisers for the committee.

DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil told The Washington Post that one race in particular — to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — has sparked enthusiasm in the party.

“Over the past several weeks, there has been growing excitement among our supporters about the prospect of defeating Mitch McConnell and protecting the majority,” he said. “It is early in the cycle, but our supporters are already giving generously to build the strong organization we need to push back on false Republican attacks and mobilize voters.”

NRSC communications director Brad Dayspring, however, noted that Democratic recruitment troubles in a handful of states could jeopardize their efforts to defend their majority.

“Democrats are feeling their majority slipping away after failing to recruit good candidates in important states like West Virginia, Montana, South Dakota, and Georgia and their committee is drowning in debt,” he said. “Meanwhile they’re wasting important resources on wing and a prayer candidates like [Kentucky Democrat] Alison Lundergan Grimes instead of saving Sen. Mary Landrieu [D-La.], Mark Begich [D-Alaska] or Kay Hagan [D-N.C.] – it’s a very bad sign this early in the cycle.”
