Poll: Kentucky Senate race a dead heat
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes are virtually tied in a new poll conducted on behalf of two progressive groups.
{mosads}The survey, conducted by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, gives Grimes 45 percent support to McConnell’s 44 percent support. Grimes’s 1-percentage-point lead is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
The survey was conducted on behalf of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America, two progressive groups that typically back Democratic candidates.
It shows a race largely unchanged from the last PPP survey, which found the two candidates each taking 45 percent support. A Republican poll released last week gave McConnell an eight-point lead over Grimes.
McConnell is underwater in this new poll, with 51 percent of voters disapproving of his job performance, while 40 percent say they approve.
The survey was conducted July 19-21 among 1,210 Kentucky voters.
