Booker to meet with Obama on youth violence

New Jersey Senate candidate and Newark Mayor Cory Booker will meet with President Obama on Tuesday to discuss ways to reduce youth violence. 

Booker, the Democrat who is a huge favorite in this fall’s Senate race, will attend a White House summit on the issue at about 2 p.m. 

{mosads}He will later join Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio and other mayors and police directors to further discuss the issue, according to The Star-Ledger.

Booker has received Obama’s endorsement and the two are friendly, according to Booker’s aides.

The event is part of a three-day visit to Washington for Booker, though a spokesman wouldn’t elaborate on the candidate’s further plans.

Booker is expected to coast to victory in the general election this fall over Republican Steve Lonegan, a significant underdog.
