Christie: ‘I used to be bigger’

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) acknowledged Wednesday that he is “much smaller now” in response to compliments about his trimmer physique.

One woman at a town hall in New Jersey told the governor he looks “smaller.”

{mosads}”Let’s not be totally unfair, I am much smaller now than I used to be,” Christie replied, according to CNN. “I used to be bigger.”

He added that his wife tells him he needs to buy new suits. “But I’m on a budget,” he said. “I gotta be careful, you know?”

Christie revealed last year that he had lap-band surgery in February 2013 to reduce his weight.

The potential 2016 presidential contender came under mockery for his size from comedian Joel McHale at this year’s White Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

“Speaking of digestive systems, Chris Christie is here,” McHale said, in just one of his jokes on the topic. “He is actually here tonight. Wow, sir, you are a glutton … for punishment.”

Christie said he did not take offense, though, telling Vanity Fair at the after-party, “Listen, I thought he was great, and that’s exactly what I expected.”
