Cruz: Obama interested in one kind of theater

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Wednesday night said President Obama is interested in at least one kind of theater, pointing to two fundraisers the president attended. 

“You know, apparently, the theater he’s interested in is seeing the home movie theater of wealthy Texas trial lawyers, and he’s interested of getting checks from wealthy Texas trial lawyers, but he’s not interested in seeing the poor immigrant children who are suffering,” Cruz said on Fox News. 

{mosads}The Texas senator was pushing back on Obama’s earlier comments regarding the flood of unaccompanied children apprehended at the southern border. Obama defended his decision not to visit the border during his trip to the state, something Republicans and some Democrats have called for. 

Obama noted that other administration officials have visited multiple times and reported back. 

“This isn’t theater. This is a problem,” Obama said. “I’m not interested in photo ops, I’m interested in solving a problem.”

Obama attended two separate fundraisers for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee. The DNC fundraiser was set at the house of film director Robert Rodriguez. 

Cruz continued to blame Obama’s 2012 decision to deprioritize the deportation of some minors for the recent flood of child immigrants now streaming into the country. He also blamed a comprehensive immigration bill passed in the Senate last year that has stalled in the House. 

“The president’s right in one regard,” Cruz said. “He’s described what is happening on the border as a humanitarian crisis, and it is, but it’s a crisis of the president’s own creation.”
