Ebola, border to take center stage Sunday

Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control, will hit the airwaves Sunday morning to discuss the Ebola outbreak in West Africa that has already infected more than 1,300 people, 700 of whom have died.

Some have speculated the Ebola virus could spread here, as two U.S. aid workers who were infected are scheduled to return to the country this weekend, where they will be treated at an Atlanta hospital.

The CDC has also issued a travel warning, cautioning people to avoid places that have been infected by Ebola, such as Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. But Frieden assured people this week that an American outbreak is not possible.

{mosads}”It is not a potential of Ebola spreading widely in the U.S. That is not in the cards,” Frieden said, according to news reports.

On Sunday, Friedman will take that message live with appearances on “Fox News Sunday,” ABC’s “This Week,” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Meanwhile, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will join CBS’ “Face the Nation” to discuss how the Ebola outbreak could impact the upcoming summit they have been preparing for with African leaders.

In other news, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla) will join “Fox News Sunday” to discuss where the border crisis stands as Congress leaves town for five weeks with thousands of young immigrants seeking entry into the U.S. Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) will discuss the same issue on CNN’s “State of the Union,” and Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) will talk with ABC’s “This Week.”

Leaders of the Senate and House intelligence committees will also make headlines, as they make TV appearances to discuss revelations that the CIA was spying on Senate Intelligence Committee staffers to learn about their investigation into Bush-era black sites and enhance interrogations.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) will speak with NBC, while the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), will head over to CBS. Meanwhile, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) will talk with CNN.
