Hillary Clinton lightens schedule after granddaughter’s birth

Hillary Clinton canceled her scheduled appearance Tuesday at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., following the birth of her granddaughter over the weekend.

Clinton would be unable to attend the Hispanic Heritage Month Leadership lunch because “she is going to stay with family in New York,” a spokesperson for the group said.  

{mosads} The former secretary of State and potential presidential candidate also canceled a scheduled D.C. fundraiser for New Hampshire state Sen. Lou D’Allesandro (D) on Tuesday, according to CNN. 

Her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, gave birth to daughter Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky on Friday.

Former President Bill Clinton similarly canceled a fundraiser in Denver over the weekend after the birth.

Hillary Clinton had been scheduled to keynote the lunch Tuesday highlighting “Latina leadership in Congress.”

Those still attending the lunch include Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (N.M.), Rep. Grace Napolitano (Calif.), Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (Calif.), Rep. Linda Sánchez (Calif.), Rep. Loretta Sanchez (Calif.), Rep. Nydia Velázquez  (N.Y.)

President Obama will headline the group’s awards dinner on Thursday.
