Jindal: GOP should do ‘everything they can’ to stop Obama on immigration action

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a possible 2016 Republican presidential contender, said Sunday that Republicans should do “everything they can” to prevent President Obama from following through on immigration executive action. 

“No, we shouldn’t shut down the government, but absolutely Republicans should do everything they can to force the president to follow the law,” Jindal said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “Let’s secure the border, no the president shouldn’t shut down the government so that he can break the law.”

Jindal did not detail the specifics of how he thinks Republicans should fight Obama’s planned actions. Some congressional Republicans are pushing for language in a spending bill seeking to block the actions.

Jindal said he would make a decision on whether to run for president in the “first half of next year.”

“If I were to run, it’s because I believe in our country the American Dream is in jeopardy,” Jindal said. “This president has defined the American Dream as more dependence on the government.”

He also defended his decision not to accept a Medicaid expansion under ObamaCare. He said the program can work for disabled people and vulnerable children, but “it was never designed to be there for able-bodied adults.”

“Why waste these tax dollars?” he asked. “We’ve got to stop acting in this city like all this money is free money.”
