Suspect in Copenhagen attacks killed by police

Police in Denmark on Sunday killed a man suspected in two deadly attacks in Copenhagen, according to multiple reports.

{mosads}Two people were killed and five police officers wounded in the attacks.

The first shooting occurred at a café in Copenhagen where a free speech debate was being held. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called that incident a “terrorist attack.”

The second shooting occurred in the vicinity of a Jewish synagogue.

Police have not released the suspected gunman’s identity or motive.

Deputy Prime Minister Morten Ostergaard told CNN early Sunday that it appears the gunman was a “lone perpetrator.”

“I think it’s fairly certain to say policy think they got their man,” Ostergaard said.

“It appears there is some kind of political motive behind it,” he said, referring to the first attack.

Ostergaard praised law enforcement and security personnel, saying that without them, it “might have been a disaster of greater proportions.”

“I think everybody here is now relieved of the fact there was a high level security at the place of the debate … and armed policy by the synagogue.”
