Republican mocks DC snow day: ‘Wimps.’
The Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee mocked the federal government for closing Tuesday due to snow.
“Wimps,” wrote Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah.) “Snowing in DC and they close the government. Imagine if the rest of the country closed when it snowed.”
Chaffetz lives in Alpine, Utah, where the temperatures were below freezing on Tuesday morning.
The federal government closed on Tuesday after a snowstorm covered the metro area with 4 to 6 inches of snow, which was on the low end of what meteorologists had predicted.
Snowstorms often make travel difficult in the Washington region, with workers struggling to get into the city from the suburbs.
Though Chaffetz had the strongest reaction, other lawmakers posted about the snow as well.
A few inches of snow won’t stop my DC staff from working. Give us a call if there is anything we can do for you. #DCSnowDay #BuffaloStrong

During this frigid weather, please check on family, friends, and neighbors who are at risk and may need help. Stay warm, and stay safe.

The federal government had not yet said whether it would close offices for a second day, but it appeared on Tuesday morning that the worst of the snowstorm had passed.
