State spokeswoman headed back to WH
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki will move back to the White House to serve as President Obama’s communications director, according to a Thursday report.
Psaki returns to the West Wing, The Associated Press said, where she rose to deputy communications director under Obama. She also served as a press secretary on both of Obama’s campaigns.
{mosads}Psaki has worked at State since early 2013 and been a regular face in press briefings and television shows defending the administration’s foreign policy platform.
She will replace outgoing communications director Jennifer Palmieri, who was immediately connected by a slew of media reports to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign-in-waiting.
Palmieri is one of multiple veteran Obama aides to announce plans to step down in early 2015. Dan Pfeiffer, a senior aide who also served as communications director, will also step down by mid-March. And senior adviser John Podesta left the White House last week.
When Palmieri and Pfeiffer’s exits were announced, a White House official told The Hill that while the departures were “significant,” there’s “value in bringing in new, energized staff with fresh ideas and new perspectives.”
