Kathy Griffin: Nancy Pelosi mediated a fight between me and Lana Del Rey
Comedienne Kathy Griffin claimed Thursday night that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tried to resolve a fight between her and “Ultraviolence” singer Lana Del Rey at an after-party for the Grammy Awards.
Appearing on “Late Night with Seth Myers” on Wednesday night, Griffin recounted a story of having been at record executive Clive Griffin’s annual Grammy party one year. She said that Pelosi asked to say hello to her.
{mosads}While they were talking, Griffin said she saw Lana Del Rey and approached her to introduce herself. Del Rey responded indignantly.
“And then Nancy Pelosi goes, ‘Oh my, did you put her on the worst-dressed list?’ And Lana Del Rey, who I don’t know, is like ‘Uh huh. She did. Yeah. She did,” Griffin said — before Pelosi stepped in to resolve the conflict.
“And so Nancy Pelosi, like she has done for decades, is basically mediating between myself and Lana Del Rey, and she’s had a lot of practice,” Griffin said. “And Nancy Pelosi, of all people is like ‘Oh Lana dear, it’s just a show where they show pictures and make little jokes dear. Don’t be upset. And Lana Del Rey is like ‘Ah, I don’t think so!’ ”
Griffin ended up leaving without apologizing to Del Rey, she said.
The clip of Griffin talking about the conversation was first noticed by Salon.
Though Del Rey and Griffin occupy a very different world than Pelosi, it’s not uncommon for lawmakers to attend recording industry events. In fact, several members of Congress attended the Grammys this year.
