Sanders to hold town halls on budget

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is considering a 2016 presidential bid, will hold a series of town-hall meetings outside of his home state to discuss how the budget is impacting middle-class Americans.

The Vermont Independent is expected to hold town halls in Washington, D.C., on April 22; Lanham, Md., on May 5; and Charlottesville, Va., on May 11.

{mosads}Sanders slammed the Republican Senate budget, which he voted against last month, saying it “is a massive transfer of wealth from people with very little to people who already have everything.”

“The Republican budget plan is a massive transfer of wealth from people with very little to people who already have everything,” Sanders said in a statement Monday. “It would throw 27 million Americans off of health insurance over the next 10 years, and make drastic cuts in nutrition, health care, education, child care and other lifesaving programs that help millions of Americans.”

Sanders, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, said the town halls were part of his efforts to speak with Americans outside of Congress. He is expected to announce additional meetings.

They come as Sanders is considering whether he will run for president. A representative told the Burlington Free Press that the senator will decide by the end of the month on if he will make a bid for the White House.
