Freddie Gray’s mother: ‘We got all six of them’
The mother of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore man who died after a fatal injury sustained in police custody, on Friday hailed the charges filed against six officers for her son’s death.
“I feel good because we got all six of them,” Gloria Darden told Buzzfeed.
“You can rest, Freddie. You can rest. You can be in peace now.”
{mosads}Her brief comments to the news outlet came just hours after Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced that her office’s investigation found that Gray died because he was not properly buckled into a police van and officers failed to provide medical help.
The driver of the van faces a second-degree murder charge, while other officers face charges including involuntary manslaughter and assault.
Gray’s death sparked widespread protests around Baltimore, as well as violent riots that injured more than 20 police officers.
Mosby called for calm during her Friday address, echoing a prominent chant heard at rallies across the country protesting police-involved deaths.
“I heard your call for ‘No justice, no peace,’ ” she said. “Your peace is severely needed as I work to deliver justice on behalf of Freddie Gray.”
