New video of Freddie Gray arrest unveiled

Fresh footage emerged on Wednesday showing the Baltimore Police Department’s arrest and transport of Freddy Gray, a black man who died last month after entering their custody.

The new clip was shot on a witness’s cell phone, The Baltimore Sun reported.

It shows officers apparently restraining Gray with handcuffs and leg shackles outside a police van stopped at the corner of Mount and Baker streets.

The previously-unseen video expands upon police footage released last month of Gray’s arrest at Mount and Presbury streets.

Gray, 25, was taken into police custody on April 12 for allegedly unlawful possession of a knife.

The Sun said Wednesday’s new film shows the police van carrying Gray stopping less than a block away from the location of his initial arrest.

Surveillance footage of officers restraining Gray behind the van has not previously emerged.

The Sun added that city surveillance camera No. 2108 — located on the Gilmore House above the intersection of Mount and Baker streets — would have captured official municipal footage of the incident.

Film from that camera was not uploaded to the city police department’s YouTube account alongside 15 others monitoring the route Gray took during his arrest, it said.

Baltimore Police announced on Twitter Wednesday that they had not uploaded footage of the crucial moment due to a technical glitch.

They say the “information to be made available shortly.”

Gray died on April 19 after suffering a several spinal injury while in police custody.

Outrage over his death led to recurring riots and protests in Baltimore late last month.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby filed criminal charges on May 1 against the six police officers involved in handling Gray’s transportation.

New Attorney General Loretta Lynch also launched a Justice Department investigation into the city’s police practices on May 8.
